Edmonton Oilers – A little deflated…

Oilers deflated?
Feeling deflated?

Initially, the Oilers started  off to a blazing pace with a 6-2-1 record to start to this season.  However, after these two recent losses to our North West division rivals including the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks, the party balloons are starting to look a little deflated.  Really, there’s no reason to panic yet…

Robert Nilsson traded to Nashville Predators?

Robert Nilsson the newest Nashville Predator?
Robert Nilsson the newest Nashville Predator?

Okay, this is far from being actual news as it’s just speculation at this point.  However, Oilers Nation has gained some further street cred after breaking the news on the Mike Comrie signing.  Recently, Jason Gregor from Oilers Nation suggested that the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators might be kicking the tires on a potential trade.

Mike Comrie signs with the Oil?

Comrie and Oiler?
Comrie an Oiler?

Update Thursday, September 10th, 2009.  Mike Comrie has officially been signed by the Edmonton Oilers for a one-year contract worth $1.125 $1.25 million dollars.

Update:  Friday, September 4, 2009.  Comrie or Nilsson?

Okay, there’s a rumor circulating around the web about Daryl Katz signing Mike Comrie for $1.3 million dollars.  Never mind the past history that the Oilers have had with Mike, but not many think we actually need another small player on our roster.

Wayne Gretz, over at Oilers Nation, wrote about this rumor several hours ago.  When I read his post, I thought that he was joking…  There’s already a post up on Lowetide in response to this rumor.  Does it get and L(1) or L(2) at this point???

“If you buy the Comrie signing (Dan Tencer says it is possible and he’s connected) then it might make sense in a “we signed Comrie and traded for…” scenario since the Oilers need another small forward like they need a hole in the head. And we can probably bring Dany Heatley into the conversation since it’s out there anyway.”

I hate to admit it, but I too try to stay somewhat up-to-date with respect to NHL trade rumors and such.  Lately, there’s been a rumor that if the Edmonton Oilers acquire a new center, that the Heatley deal might still go through.  I wouldn’t put any stock in that at this point, but crazy things do occasionally happen…
