Though the list of players invited to Team Canada’s Olympic hockey team camp has been released for awhile–including the more recent invite of Ottawa Senator’s first line center-man, Jason Spezza, I thought I would write a quick blog about the team.
Here’s the list of players invited:
Goaltenders: Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Marc-André Fleury, Steve Mason, Cam Ward
Defence: Jay Bouwmeester, Dan Boyle, Scott Niedermayer, Chris F Pronger, Robyn Regehr, Dion Phaneuf, Marc Staal, Shea Weber, François Beauchemin, Brent Burns, Drew Doughty, Stéphane Robidas, Mike Green, Dan Hamhuis, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook.
Forwards: Sidney Crosby, Shane Doan, Simon Gagné, Dany F Heatley, Jarome Iginla, Rick Nash, Joe Sakic, Martin St-Louis, Eric Staal, Joe Thornton, Vincent Lecavalier, Ryan Smyth, Jeff Carter, Ryan Getzlaf, Milan Lucic, Patrick Marleau, Andy McDonald, Brenden Morrow, Corey Perry, Michael Richards, Derek Roy, Patrick Sharp, Jordan Staal, Jonathan Toews, Dan Cleary, Jason Spezza.
In short, there’s absolutely not shortage of talent on the potential Team Canada Olympic Hockey Team roster. Just looking at that list of names inspires hope that we’re going to take home gold this year. Admittedly, I would have a pretty hard time putting together a roster with this as there are only a few names like Andy McDonald that I could quickly prune off. Team Canada will name its final 23 man roster in December.
We can hope that should Dany Heatley make the Olympic team this year that Heatley gate will not provide a distraction to our players. In my mind, Heatley’s recent press conference was basically a non-event. Yup, Heatley has his story and he’s sticking too it, lol. Don’t get my started on options…
As for the recent controversy regarding the logo dispute with the Olympic committee, it’s interesting that there’s no apparent issue whatsoever with the big Nike Swoosh logo proudly displayed on the front of the jersey, right?
To my present understanding, Team Canada’s 4 day camp is starting today in Calgary. I know that I am definitely looking forward to some great Olympic Hockey around the corner.
